Endangered Black Stilt
Twizel
The department of conservation runs a breeding programme for these highly
endangered wading birds. Tours of the aviary are given twice a day. Bookings can

Hiking
In Twizel, Tekapo and Mt Cook there are a range of hiking trails, anything from
a half hour stroll for those with limited time, up to over-night walks such as the
ever-popular Mueller Hut walk in Aoraki Mt Cook National Park.
